Fellow Kayakers,

Our next paddle is to Shark Tooth and Keg Islands on the morning of Thursday 7 May (this is a new date to avoid conflicting with the CFMC Picnic).  We will launch from and return to River Road Park (6500 River Rd, Wilmington), most easily reached by going south on Carolina Beach Rd., turning right on Sanders Rd., continuing to the circle, taking the second right going south on River Road for about 1/2 mile.  The park is on right.

We will start the paddle at 10 AM; please plan on arriving by 9:30 AM.  The paddle will begin by going up river along the shore then across to Shark Tooth island. We will be passing an osprey nest which has been there for some time. We will explore the island and look for shark teeth. Shark Tooth is a man made island and about 80% of the island has a shore of smaller to larger stones so wear water shoes. We may see pelican nests on the island.

The paddle will then go around Shark Tooth and down to the beach on the west side of Keg Island. See map.  This is a natural island and offers a good place to stop and walk around a bit. We will then decide who wants to paddle around Keg Island and who will paddle back to dock. The estimated paddle would be a total of: 4 mile going around Keg or 2 mile going back from Keg Island beach. Lunch will be at PT's Olde Fashioned Grille, 5916 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington.

We will make the weather call the night before the event and notify people if it is to be postponed.  Friends and family are welcome but they must sign the CFMC release of liability form to participate.  PFDs are required of everyone.

We look forward to seeing you on the water.

John and John
